Program Description

Tufts University is excited to offer an innovative Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program uniquely positioned in the Tufts University School of Medicine. Similar to other Tufts School of Medicine programs, the DPT program is student-centered and focused on academic and clinical excellence. Tufts DPT faculty are nationally recognized educators, clinicians, scholars, and leaders within the physical therapy profession.

Tufts DPT Boston program offers an innovative accelerated hybrid education model starting in the summer semester annually and graduating just seven semesters later. The DPT program's curriculum is intentionally designed by our expert faculty and support from Tufts educational technologists as instructional designers, create an engaging virtual classroom to engage students in high-quality, interactive learning opportunities. Our innovative 7-semester, evidence-informed curriculum gives students access to an engaging virtual classroom from all over the country. The program uses best practices for face-to-face live class sessions, and active learning strategies, while the immersive on-campus skill labs provide critical hands-on training and feedback for learning to meet the unique needs of remote learners. Tufts DPT curriculum spans seven academic semesters and utilizes two campuses to maximize the Tufts Boston DPT student experience and use of training facilities. Our DPT program labs are located at Tufts University in Medford, MA and at the School of Medicine's Health Science Campus in Boston MA for the anatomy, clinical skills, and simulation training experiences. Tufts DPT program allows the flexibility for students to live anywhere in the country and travel to Boston for intensive hands-on clinical skills training experiences, as required. Tufts DPT clinical education curriculum consists of 31-weeks of training through three separate experiences, to provide an exposure of a variety of clinical settings, patient populations and exposure to unique clinical learning experiences nationwide.

Our DPT program is dedicated to developing excellent, high-performing, healthcare professionals who demonstrate interprofessional collaborative practice core competencies for to serve and advance the health and well-being of an increasingly diverse population. Tufts DPT graduates will be market-ready physical therapists, demonstrating a blend of skills and perspectives necessary to meet the healthcare demands in the 21st century.
