However, we recognize that obtaining a reference from a physical therapist may be difficult for some due to the lack of opportunity for observational hours. We encourage you to obtain a reference from a physical therapist, their perspective is different from that of your academic references and is important to us. If you are unable to obtain a reference from a physical therapist, a reference from an individual who can speak to your professionalism, motivation, ability to collaborate, ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and other attributes that are beyond that observed by your academic faculty. Read More UPDATE: Observation hours requirement for VCU for the 2020-2021 Cycle: We recognize that obtaining the required observation hours may not be possible during the COVID-19 situation. We encourage you to obtain the observation hours and experiences in different settings, including tele-health, however, we will accept and fully consider applicants who are unable to meet the minimum hour requirement (45 hours) or multiple setting requirement. We will accept tele-health as an observation experience. One of the reasons for this requirement is to encourage applicants to develop an understanding of the breadth of the physical therapy profession and their certainty that this is the right career choice. If you are unable to meet the observational hour requirement we encourage you to look for creative ways to learn about the variety of physical therapy practice. Read Less
