    APPLICATION DEADLINE UPDATE!
The VCU DPT department recognizes the unique challenges that COVID-19 has placed on applicants this year. This ranges from difficulty securing transcripts from your University, to pushing back GRE testing dates due to illness, to continuing challenges with getting summer grades correctly submitted. We hear you.

That said, the VCU DPT program is delaying our application deadline for the 2020 application cycle. We want to make sure everyone who wants to apply, can apply, and that they can do so unencumbered by the specific delays that COVID has brought this year.

The new hard deadline for VCU DPT is November 1, making the October 1st deadline a soft deadline. GRE scores from tests taken prior to Oct 29 will be accepted.

If you have questions, please reach out to dptadmissions@vcu.edu

UPDATE: Letters of Recommendation requirement for VCU for the 2020-2021 Cycle: VCU requires three letters of recommendation, with at least one from a physical therapist. However, we recognize that obtaining a reference from a physical therapist may be difficult for some due to the lack of opportunity for observational hours. We encourage you to obtain a reference from a physical therapist, their perspective is different from that of your academic references and is important to us. Program Description

Virginia Commonwealth University offers one of the premier Doctor of Physical Therapy Programs in the country. Located in the heart of Richmond's VCU Medical Center, the program provides students with easy access to state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities. The VCU Department of Physical Therapy was established in 1931 and was the first accredited physical therapy program in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of the first programs in the country.

The Department of Physical Therapy includes 12 full-time faculty members, more than 20 adjunct faculty members and three staff members. Our full-time faculty members are actively involved in teaching, clinical practice and research across a wide spectrum of clinically relevant topics. Visit the VCU Department of Physical Therapy website (https://pt.chp.vcu.edu/our-team/) to learn more about each full-time faculty member's area of expertise and research.

VCU's DPT Program prepares students for entry into the profession by teaching them to evaluate and manage patients with physical therapy problems effectively and in accordance with ethical principles. The department maintains clinical internship contracts with more than 210 facilities across the United States. DPT students at VCU complete a total of 32 weeks in full-time clinical education experiences as well as over 80+ hours in part time observations. The program provides students with strategies to continually define and meet their own educational needs in order to keep skills and knowledge current throughout their professional careers.

Public service is an important element of VCU's Department of Physical Therapy mission. The department encourages and supports service by students and faculty as a means to help meet the needs of society, to provide students with alternative learning experiences, and to provide the students and faculty with information and guidance regarding the rapid changes in the healthcare environment.
