Doctors of Physical Therapy at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee (UWM) are uniquely educated in an urban setting, at a research-intensive campus. The UWM Doctor of Physical Therapy Program conducts a holistic review of applicants and strives to consider a balance of each applicant's personal attributes and experiences alongside of their accomplishments. Our focus is to graduate practitioners, researchers, and educators to be leaders in the profession of Physical Therapy across the lifespan.

UWM is able to boast a 99% pass rate of our graduates on the National Physical Therapy Licensing Examination. We are also proud to uphold a 90% graduation rate. 

A number of program strengths support these outcomes including: talented students; our small class sizes offering personalized student attention; our cohesive faculty that is highly trained and motivated; and our high quality classroom and clinical education. Comprehensive practical examinations, completed each semester, encompass application of academic preparation with clinical skill performance, featuring students working one-on-one with faculty. Graduates of the UWM DPT program highlight this dynamic assessment as a major factor in their successes during student clinical experiences as well as in the workplace, as clinicians. The UWM program faculty supports a competency-based curriculum in order to optimize each student's preparation as a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of two state, public doctoral research institutions. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been recognized by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as one of a select number of institutions with the highest research activity, a group often referred to as R1.  This setting affords students in the DPT program at UWM access to numerous resources.  Faculty collaborate with other departments, and students can study under the direction of research mentors; participate in interdisciplinary research projects; attend research seminars and clinical conferences; and take advantage of the extensive library resources and campus support services.

If we review enough competitive applications in the early priority admission phase to fill our class, we will do so.
