Program Description

In 1992, Creighton University established the nation's first Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT), a standard now followed by every other physical therapy (PT) program. Today, Creighton's PT program is ranked in the Top-10 by U.S. News & World Report. We offer students an ideal setting for innovative work focusing on maintaining quality and dignity of life and enriching the human community.

At Creighton Physical Therapy, our mission is to improve lives and society through a commitment to provide an exemplary education to our students, contribute to research in the profession and provide service to those in need within our Jesuit values and tradition. We are committed to leadership in clinical doctoral education, and our curriculum continues to evolve through integrated course content that reflects the dynamic and ever-changing health care landscape. Our hands-on curriculum occurs in state-of-the-art facilities in one of the most livable cities in the Midwest.

Our faculty is nationally and internationally known, holding significant leadership roles. They are dedicated to hands-on teaching, mentoring, and addressing student learning needs. They average 15+ years of clinical experience and demonstrate national leadership in rehabilitation research focusing on human biomechanics, orthopedics, pediatrics and women's health.

Over 44 weeks of supervised clinical practice is provided in the curriculum - up to 9 weeks more training than the national average. In addition, PT students can choose from more than 400 clinical training sites in the U.S. and internationally - including an opportunity in the Dominican Republic.

Creighton is a Jesuit, Catholic institution, many who pursue health science professional degrees in pharmacy, occupational therapy, medicine, dentistry, as physician assistants, nursing, and emergency management services, in addition to PT. We are currently constructing the $75 million CL Werner Center for Health Sciences Education in Omaha to house our health sciences programs. In addition, Creighton has a dynamic partnership with CHI Health, a regional health network of 14 hospitals, and more than 150 health clinics in Nebraska and southwestern Iowa.

If you're looking for a college experience in a friendly, easy-to-live place, with culture to spare, good food, plenty of live music - and access to nature, in Omaha, you get it all. It won't take you long to feel like you're at home here.

There's something special about a Creighton education. Whether it's the Jesuit value of understanding self and others, it's a uniquely remarkable program. We're committed to having our student learners and future health professionals understand the privilege of care. Patients place their trust in you that you can help them feel better.
