Program Description

The Columbia University Doctor of Physical Therapy program is one of the nation's oldest programs and the only Program in the Ivy League conference. The Program resides within the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, closely affiliated with New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center & Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital - all top-rated US hospitals. Students and faculty collaborate with an interprofessional community of health professionals to discover, educate, care for, and lead in this stimulating New York City environment.

The 33-month Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum consists of 6 didactic semesters and 4 full-time clinical education experiences lasting a combined 36 weeks. The curriculum provides an opportunity for each student to customize the entry-level physical therapy education by selecting an orthopedic, neurologic, or pediatric specialty track and selecting electives to develop both breadth and depth of knowledge and skills. The program faculty consists of board-certified clinical specialists, award-winning educators, internationally recognized researchers, and national leaders. Student learning is enriched by a world-class medical library, contemporary educational technology, service learning opportunities, and clinical education sites that include major national medical centers and children's hospitals, international hospitals on 3 continents, Major League Baseball spring training camps, and dance centers.

Columbia University graduates are prepared as autonomous clinicians, have an excellent record of success on the licensing examination, and are highly sought after as employees. Our recent graduates have gone on to work for our nation's most renowned medical centers and children's hospitals, a major pop singer on tour, a Super Bowl-winning football team, several USA Olympic teams, and Broadway shows, as well as, several foreign countries.
