FOR INCOMING DPT STUDENTS (Spring 2021)

While the CSU DPT Program ordinarily requires that students receive letter grades for prerequisite courses, we will accept P or S grades for courses taken Spring 2020 when the university offering such courses allowed these alternative grading options due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS FOR SPRING 2022 OR BEYOND: UPDATE DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

* While the CSU DPT Program requires that students receive letter grades for courses, we will accept P/F or S/U grades for courses taken Spring 2020 when the university offering such courses allowed these alternative grading options due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

* Students who are planning to apply to other PT Programs should check with those other programs to see if they will accept P/F or S/U before choosing these alternative grading options. Due to variations in PT programs we would advise that you opt for the letter grade if possible.

* If you have questions, please contact our Graduate Assistant Advisor at ptadvising@csuohio.edu

Program Description

Cleveland State University is located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. The Doctor of Physical Therapy's (DPT) mission is: rooted in an urban culture, we serve through engaged education, scholarship, and innovation. Our vision is to be a Catalyst for change toward optimizing health. We prepare competent entry-level practitioners who are well prepared to meet the demands of the contemporary health care arena. The DPT degree emphasizes advanced skills in therapeutic relationship development, medical screening, differential diagnosis, critical thinking and clinical reasoning. It will arm students with an evidence base that validates clinical decisions to support the level of independent practice expected in a direct access environment. It is expected that the DPT graduate will be prepared to be a critical consumer of the scientific literature, to support clinical research and to use research data to design and manage the processes of care. Students complete a clinical practicum; a portfolio and a clinical case report. The DPT program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
